Hello,

I've been looking for information on building a 12 string guitar and
things seem to be pretty skimpy out there.

I did find some plans at for a 12 string at
http://www.rolinmusic.com/plans.html.

I'm wondering if anyone can post some other resources. I've checked
google pretty well, but can't seem to find anything.

I've got the Cumpiano boot, and am ready to tackle this project. I've
got a pretty full featured wood shop, so tools really aren't an issue.
I've also built a couple of ukuleles just to get familiar with some of
the finishing techniques and general instrument setup.

If anybody can point me in the right direction for building a 12
string, that would be great!

Thanks!

Brent

Luthier's Mercantile has a 12-string Dreadnaught plan available:

http://www.lmii.com/CartTwo/thirdproducts.asp?CategoryName=Plans%2C+Steel+String&NameProdHeader=Dreadnought

I haven't seen it, but plan to build a 12-string sometime later this
year, so I will probably order this item soon.

Another bracing scheme is in David Russell Young's book. I've used it, and
it works, but the next one I make will have just a stronger x-braces, a
"Musser Bar" behind the bridge like I use on my 6 strings, and maybe a
little stronger on the soundhole braces.

Do you have the name of the book or a source? I saw this in some
previous postings, but haven't been able to find it.

Thanks!

"The Steel String Guitar: Construction & Repair"

Amazon has it. I'm sure your local bookstore can order it. There's also
"Steel-String Guitar Construction" by Irving Sloane.

12 string dreadnaughts never sound quite right to me. To me, jumbo
shape is the 'real' 12 string.
